13 Dec Tip-top Window Valances: Dress Up Your Windows With a Stylish Valance

Want to add extra oomph to your window makeover? Pair a window valance with your drapery for a polished, layered effect. Valances also work wonders in hiding the headers of shades and blinds.

By framing out the horizontal line of the windows, valances reinforce a room’s architecture, giving it a more “finished” look, regardless of its décor style. You can find them complementary to any aesthetic, from classic to contemporary, romantic to refined.

Here are four types to consider.

	Tailored  Description: Crisp and of-the-moment this style is constructed by covering a bar or customized box with a fabulous fabric that incorporates a flat double corner or centre pleat into the design. Best for: All window types but best suited to more formal design settings, i.e. master bedrooms, ensuites and living rooms. Looks beautiful with: Scrumptuous matching pleated drapes.
	Upholstered  Description: This customized valance offers a clean, tailored look. Fabric covers a flat board panel, lending polish to a window without the fuss of ruffles or any extraneous fabric. Best for: All window types, from small to glass patio doors. Looks beautiful with: This versatile look is a great way to show off a much-loved print or pattern. Flat panel valances are über-flexible and can be paired with drapes and blinds, drapery panels, or if privacy isn’t an issue and you’ve got a great view, entirely on their own!
	Swag or Scarf  Description: Swag and scarf valances are as straightforward as they come. A length of fabric is simply “swagged” across the top of the window, creating a simple decorative drape down one side (swag), or both (scarf). Best for: Smaller windows. Looks beautiful with: Simple blinds and shades, or a lightweight sheer drapery panel.
	Cornice Valance Description: A romantic and highly decorative look, the cornice valance adds colour, texture and depth along the top of a drapery panel. Best for: Most window types. Looks beautiful with: Lush, luxurious silks and taffetas preferably printed and decked out with tasseled tiebacks and the like. It’s a dramatic treatment for dramatic fabrics!
