06 Feb Classic Blue: Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2020 is Here to Brighten up Your Decade!
Some might say, 2020 has been off to a rocky start – but we are here to tell you, some great things have already happened this year too! For over 20 years, Pantone’s Colour of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple design industries, including fashion, fabrics, home furnishings, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s Colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute comb the world looking for new Colour influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact Colour, relevant social media platforms and even upcoming sporting events that capture worldwide attention.
So, it’s no wonder, Pantone’s colour of the year selections are always on the pulse of the latest astatic trends.

This year, the colour choice is right on point, once again. Classic Blue. What could be better? Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.

“From now and then [1999], there’s the same feeling of trepidation about the world, which is why, based on what we saw happening in our global culture, we selected Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, to be our Colour of the year for 2020.” Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute.
Given the importance of the Paton Colour of the Year selection, it is on surprise that many design houses and brands follow up the announcement with their own dedicated collections, especially created to celebrate the beauty of each year’s choice.
