Dreaming of Fabrics and Wallpapers: Les Reves Collection from Nina Campbell

August 18th, 2017

The unique use of colour by of one of the greatest 20th century artists, Henri Matisse (1869-1954), and the people and places with whom he was associated, have inspired renowned international designer Nina Campbell to present this painterly collection of printed fabrics, weaves and wallpapers: “Les Reves”… The Dream…

“ I’ve always been enchanted by Matisse’s use of textiles and ceramics, in his paintings. His work shows a wonderful sense of colour and love of pattern….an interior designer at heart! ”
– Nina Campbell

Henri Matisse’s Luxe, calme et voluptè (Luxury, Calm and Pleasure) was painted in the summer of 1904 at Paul Signac.
The Musèe d’Orsay (The Orsay Museum), housed in the former railway station, the Gare d’Orsay, holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography, and is probably best known for its extensive collection of impressionist masterpieces by popular painters such as Monet and Renoir. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum’s opening in 1986.

The Woman Behind the Designs

Henrietta “Nina” Sylvia Campbell is an English interior designer and businesswoman, whose clients include the Duke and Duchess of York, Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart and the Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge… not that we need to name-drop… Today, Nina is one of the world’s most respected and influential interior designers and her design expertise is unparalleled. Renowned for her contagious wit and brilliant sense of style, her designs appeal to both young and mature and sit well in both contemporary and traditional interiors.

Homes & Garden

Nina’s enthusiasm and interest in design and interiors was developed when, at the age of nineteen, she went to work for John Fowler at the prestigious Sybil Colefax & John Fowler. With this valuable experience and education at hand, Nina eventually set up her own decorating business, where one of her first commissions was to design a castle in Scotland in her unmistakably elegant and rich colour palette.

Today, Nina Campbell works with a large and trusted team of craftsmen in all the decorative fields – home accessories, luxury blankets, fine china sets, glassware, and more. She is equally happy working with clients existing furniture and art or acquiring antiques and bespoke pieces to create a house ready to be lived in.
