In an effort to make the world’s most beautiful wallpapers, fabrics and accessories, partners Tim Butcher and Lizzie Deshayes honed their combined experience as leading international designers to establish the handmade interiors house Fromental, in 2005. Fromental house combines the highest levels of technical Chinese and British craftsmanship with the most luxurious materials and “blends historic classicism with the cutting-edge cool of London’s fashion scene to create contemporary, timeless interiors”.

With collections that combine modern takes on 18th Century Chinoiserie with both monochromatic and vibrant colourways, or contemporary, panoramic 20th century compositions laid out alongside a Roomskins collection of subtle, non-repeating patterns – the artistic vision that underpins the work of Fromental’s artists is nothing short of visionary.
How Do they Do It?
Since its inception, Frometal have pioneered the technique of embellishing wallpapers with fine silk embroidery, taking this already supreme decorative form to new heights of opulence. The wallpapers are hand-painted prior to being part- or fully- embroidered in silk and metallic threads in hundreds of colours. Located in the world-renowned embroidery home of Suzhou, artists spend up to 600 hours stitching individual panels in this exquisite technique. Suzhou is situated close to Wuxi in the Jiangsu province of China, where these ancient crafts have been practiced for over 2,500 years, passed down from generation to generation.
